1.6 Styling the Look

Styling is a set of deliberate brand choices. Specific choices make a look coherent and give us something to preserve across images.

Purpose

In this video, we’ll style our outfit to suit the brand. We’ll look at hair, makeup, accessories and shoes, and decide which choices belong in the look.

Choose a direction

Look at Bobo Choses’ photos. Is the hair pulled back or worn over the shoulders? Is the makeup clean and minimal? Choose the details that fit our brand and describe them clearly—for example, “hair pulled back.”

Be specific about the styling

Now choose the accessories and shoes. Consider a bag or earrings if they suit the outfit. Look at the full image as you decide, so the pieces work together with the clothes, hair and makeup.

Compare the whole look

Now let’s compare our first generation with the result after our styling direction. Look at the hair, makeup, accessories and shoes. Notice which changes bring the look closer to the brand, and check that the garment’s details are still correct.

Closing thought

Now we’ve defined the styling we want to carry through the rest of the lookbook.
